Getting started

Project structure

The files Tessera adds to your repo and what each one is for.

The default layout

Project
my-app/├─ schema.ts # tables, relations, rules├─ seed.ts # optional sample data├─ functions/ # server functions│ └─ welcome-email.ts├─ tessera/ # generated client (do not edit)├─ migrations/ # applied migration history└─ tessera.config.ts # project settings

Files you edit

schema.ts

The single source of truth for your data model. Every table, column, relation and rule lives here, so reviews of data changes happen in one file.

functions/

Each file exports one function. The file name becomes the function name, for example welcome-email.

tessera.config.ts

Project-level settings: regions, auth providers, preview branch behaviour and function runtimes.

Generated files

The tessera/ folder is regenerated on every tessera push and tessera generate. Commit it so CI and teammates build without running the CLI.

Migrations are history

Files in migrations/ record what was applied to each environment. Don’t edit them by hand; create a new migration instead.
